One of the greatest advantages of building wind power in forest environments is that these areas are sparsely populated and the authorisation process is thus simplified.
Forests also screen off sound, shade and visual impressions, meaning that the wind turbines cause less of a disturbance than if they were positioned in open countryside.
The disadvantage of locating wind farms in forest areas is that installation is more expensive due to the added cost of build¬ing roads and higher towers.
All in all, conditions are excellent for rapid, profitable expansion of wind power in forest areas.
Another contributing factor is the increased awareness of forest environment wind power, promoted through Arise Windpower’s close collaboration with Halmstad College. This is of great importance to Arise Windpower since the company erects over 90 per cent of its turbines in forest areas. Practically speaking, increased awareness has contributed to an improved output from the company’s wind turbines, resulting in increased profitability.
